Rick and Morty Character Modelling

As one of the most influential adult animated shows in recent history Rick and Morty were characters that i was eager to create in the medium of 3D as part of an assignment learning about proportions and character modelling. This led me to create not only both the characters but their recognizable garage as well showcasing them in scale to their surroundings. As a first dive into character modelling I kept this fairly simple and low poly to learn the basics of character modelling, rigging, texturing and more.

Rick Sanchez

Facial topology

Learning about edge loops and facial topology was challenging especially making each loop align with each feature, making sure it is optimized and ready for animation.

Body Topology

This was my first attempt at learning the topology of a body focusing on maintaining quads and good loops especially around joints.

Rick Clothes.png

Cloth Modelling

Each clothing item was modelled in a way that it could be used in a simulation if required however for the showcase it was kept fairly low poly.

The Texture of the faces and clothes were created in Substance Painter after making the UVs in such a way that they could be properly painted on

Rig Setup

Each character was rigged that would allow basic posing and movement.

Prop Creation

The iconic Portal Gun of Rick and Morty was also created to add to the scene and characters.
